PURA VIDA!

I hope that wherever you are in the world that the season has treated you kindly. As summer comes to an end here and I have been lucky enough to have some time away with my family. I am rested and ready to go. At the end of August I keynoted at the 80th Anniversary celebrations of the Chamber of Industries
of Costa Rica… as well as being a real privilege, it was my first opportunity to visit this remarkable country. There is something very special about the place, its people and the way of life they cocreate. I made a very short video about it.

There is a new documentary series about Blue Zone regions, which includes part of Costa Rica and aims to explain just why there is such extraordinary life expectancy. If you have the opportunity and the time, I thoroughly recommend it.

Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones – Netflix.

One of the things that really struck me about my own visit and the documentary was the reference to ‘Plan de Vida’, as they call it in Costa Rica or as the Japanese refer to it, ‘Ikigai’. The idea that our lives must feel purposeful and of value. I made another short video about it here:

I find that I am at my most vulnerable and miserable when I don’t feel that I have been or have done something of value in a day. I hate the days when I don’t interact with others or do the thing I love the most and share my work on stage. I am incredibly lucky to do what I do and I thank you all for being a part of that.

A final word from Richard

If something in this landed — sit with that for a moment.

Everything I write comes from the same place: twenty-five years of watching what happens when people are given back the curiosity and courage their systems trained out of them.

In schools. In boardrooms. On six continents.

The rooms change. The human truth doesn’t.

If you want more of that thinking — the kind that tends to resurface at 2am and in meetings that were supposed to be about something else — you can subscribe below.

And if your organisation is ready to stop squandering what it already has, I’d love to bring that conversation into your room.
