I’m writing this on what will prove to be an historic day in European history. Our Prime Minister will be presenting The European Parliament with a letter invoking Article 50. Over the next two years we will be watching and listening hard as bureaucrats, civil servants and politicians talk systems and structures and argue over points of law and trade agreements.
Most of us will wait with anxiety and anticipation to see what the outcomes will be, outcomes which we are told will define at least one generation’s future.
There are two thoughts I have on this momentous day; firstly, that if we really want power back in the hands of the people, then we can’t wait to be told what to do or how to do it. That might well be how we were trained or educated to think, but it is not the mode to success in these exponentially changing times we live in and are moving towards.
We must all stick our heads above the parapet, look for our own opportunities and pathways, trust our instincts and seize the moment. Our future is in our own hands.
The second thing is this, the process will be focused on systems and structures not on people; we must therefore keep reminding the people responsible for the outcomes of Article 50 to focus on people.
As I have said many times before; systems and structures change nothing, people do.
